In the latest Republican debate, which I made no effort to watch, commentators gave Mitt Romney high marks. Mostly, the commentators talked about the shortcomings of the other candidates. It strikes me that President Obama sometimes tries to position himself as “the only adult in room,” as his supporters like to say. Could Mitt Romney win his party’s nomination by being the Republican equivalent of that guy? Meanwhile, Herman Cain is still making a strong case for being the leading Republican alternative to Romney. And I just read that Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul are still participating in the debates, but I have no idea why.
President Obama’s jobs bill died in the Senate when all the Republicans and two Democrats voted against it. Some angry people are saying on the Internet that Republicans want the economy to fail. If that is true, I wonder what the motive was for those two Democrats.
Finally, Alex and Stephen Kendrick really knocked it out of the park with their new movie, “Courageous.” Their last film, “Fireproof,” was inspiring and entertaining, and “Courageous” offers even more of the same. Yeah, it’s got a great message, but it also works as an entertaining story. The characters are interesting, the humor works quite well, and the action scenes really popped.
