The Good News and the Bad News

1. Do you, dear reader, remember a few weeks ago when I complained that there was a time and temperature sign near where I work that fell back early–a few days before Daylights Savings Time–and it is also always a few minutes off? Their clock was something like an hour and 2 minutes slow. Well, I’ve got good news and bad news.

The good news: They adjusted their clock.

The bad news: It is now 58 minutes ahead. When we jumped back, they jumped forward. Seriously.

I think somebody is just messing with me.

2. I became a fan of the Washington Wizards (then called the “Bullets”) in 1978. They went on to win the NBA championship. The next year they made it to the championship and lasted for 6 games. It has been a lean 34 years since that 2nd championship run.

The good news: They’ve already won 2 games this season.

The bad news: As I write this, they have played 7.

3. The goal of Obamacare was to provide affordable health insurance for all Americans.

The good news: According to figures just released, over 100,000 people have been able to get new insurance.

The bad news: So far 4.8 million have lost their existing insurance. On behalf of our federal government, I’d just like to say, “Oops.”

4. A lot of people today feel broken and defeated. A lot of people feel bad about themselves–unforgiven and unforgiving.

The good news: There is hope for the broken. God loves them. Jesus died for them. Peace is possible.

The bad news: Actually, there doesn’t have to be bad news here.

Here’s what I believe: Jesus saves hurting people, the coverage numbers for Obamacare will get better as the weeks roll by, and the Washington Wizards will have more than 2 wins by the end of the season.

But I think the time and temperature sign is going to stay screwed up until the End of Time.
